U18 RiverCats go 1-2 After Dropping a Pitcher’s Dual

The U18 RiverCats started out with two losses, then followed up with a big win to cap Saturday play in the Clearwater based Triple Crown MLK Preseason Blast tournament.
The RiverCats dropped a pitcher’s dual, 1-0, in game one versus the Cyclones who are from the St. Petersburg area. Eric Bargo – Watertown, WI, was the tough luck loser for the RiverCats, allowing 1 run on 5 hits, with 1 walk and 5 punchouts. The ‘Cats were held to 4 hits, yet stranded 9 base runners. Tyler Malcook – Brodhead, and Adam Grindheim-Kaukauna, both doubled in the loss.
Game two was dropped by the RiverCats 12-0 to the Tampa Smokers.
Game three was a win by the RiverCats that was shortened to five innings due to the 10 run mercy rule. The final score was 12-2 in favor of the RiverCats over the Three Village Yankees of Long Island, New York. The ‘Cats received plenty of offense and dominating pitching. Josh Brodersen-Vulcan, MI, threw four hitless innings, allowing 3 walks and striking out 3. Leading the offensive charge was Heath Rowe-Marinette, WI, and Pat Cottrell-Jefferson, WI. Rowe was 2 for 3 with a triple and a single, an RBI and 2 stolen bases. Cottrell was 1 for 2 with 2 walks and 3 RBI’s.
The RiverCats resume play Sunday morning at 8 am. The ‘Cats will need a win in the first game to play in the championship round.
