The GRB Rays avenged their Saturday loss by winning two ball games on Sunday at the Top Collegiate Prospect Invitational.

After losing a walk off game on Saturday to the Tiger Baseball Club from Edwardsville, IL, the Rays took down the same team 6-3 Saturday morning.  Zach Ransom scattered 5 hits over 5 innings of 3 run baseball.  Ransom earned the win and struck out 5 with no walks.  Neil Hebert pitched the final two frames for the save.

Jordan Jess launched a two-run homer to break the game open in the 5th inning.  Jess was 2 for 3 on the day with 3 RBI’s.  Ransom helped his own cause by going 2 for 3 at the dish.  Pat Cottrell and David Luciani both chipped in wit doubles.

The win advanced the Rays to the split bracket consolation championship.  They matched up with and beat the Barrington Post 158 Legion squad 8 to 0.  The Rays busted open the game early with a 5 run 1st inning.  Ben Pearson pitched for the Rays gaining a win and has not allowed a run in 7.2 innings this year for the Rays.  Pat Cottrell went 2 for 3 with a double, Jordan Jess went 1 for 2 with 2 RBI’s, and Neil Hebert went 2 for 3 to lead the charge for the Rays.

With the wins the Rays up their record to 10-8-1.  They play their next tournament July 21st through the July 25th at the 18U National Championship being held in Indianapolis, IN at Butler University.
